“[…] The defects of character, which generally create a bad fate are: anger, fear, pride, hatred, revenge, sensuality, egoism, envy and intolerance. It is therefore necessary to analyse our habitual thoughts and observe whether, even to a slight degree, we detect some of the above-mentioned defects in them. If so, we must immediately set to work to eliminate them. The two main means of doing this are: change of thought and action. The more important of the two is thought: if we correct our habitual thoughts, it will automatically change the way we behave.”

The creative power of thought

From this we move on to the precious and determining factor of human life: the creative power of thought. It is indisputably true that every thought-form we create can be transformed into a living force. It floats within our aura, becomes part of our individual mental atmosphere and thus of our existence. From the association of the creative thought with the substance of desire and emotion, two results arise:
1. The corresponding action.
2. The thought-forms that do not manifest immediately are set aside in memory and will form the basis of the future. We can access them at any time; they can appear as physical realities in our habitual environment, making it good or bad, depending on the thought created.
Therefore, if you wish to change your environment and your fate, change your thoughts. […]

Some metaphysical principles

It is good to know some metaphysical and psychological principles that can help improve our personality and well-being, both in our working environment and in all material affairs.
One of them is to look for the good in everything and in every situation, even if the circumstances may seem apparently irreconcilable; by following the principle of looking for the good we create a thought-form that, over time, will bring us well-being, personal success and advantageous conditions. Seeking the good is like starting with a snowball that grows in volume and strength as it goes down a slope: thought-forms of a kindred nature associate with each other and thus increase rapidly. By putting this principle into practice, we will definitely improve our environment.
Praise is a phase of this principle – it is a ray of sunshine – it is the light of the soul: it increases good desires and well-being. Let us praise all that is good in our neighbour, even if it is of little consequence, and above all, let us never forget to praise and thank the Inner Power, seeing it as a guide and source of resources for our needs. Everything comes from that Power.

The validity of forgiveness

Forgiveness is another virtue that must not be overlooked. forgiveness is scientific, it draws invisible forces to us, it cancels out all thought-forms of hatred, revenge or resentment and nullifies their materialisation. Resentment, envy and revenge often cause painful living conditions, especially if such feelings are habitual. Hatred is the worst destructive force existing in the Universe; resentment and revenge are phases of hatred. Of all the passionate feelings, revenge is the most deadly, because it makes it impossible to achieve good results. It is certain that he who has caused us injustice will receive the corresponding retribution from the invisible law. […]

Confession has in it an important metaphysical principle

Much has been said about confession; however, it is likely that we have not adequately evaluated it. We may have thought, perhaps, that when we confess to a priest we remain dissatisfied: however, confession has in itself an important hidden metaphysical principle, namely, it removes the emotional form contained in thought-forms and frees us and helps to restore balance and calm. When one commits a fault that causes fear, shame, anger, etc., this thought-form enters the subconscious and ferments there, especially if the fault has not been healed. Such thought-forms can influence the subconscious for many years and create so-called complexes. If various complexes are created in the consciousness, we will gradually lose our psychic balance, become nervous and unable to control ourselves.

Confession then comes to the rescue – it dissolves the emotional energy contained in such complexes and renders them harmless.
It is not essential to confess to a priest or other minister of the Church. Confession can be made directly to the person we have offended, or to another person in whom we place our trust.
It can also be made to our Higher Self: confessions made to ourselves are called retrospection, and must be made every evening, after we have gone to bed, beginning by analysing the last actions of the day, gradually going back to the early hours of the morning. For retrospection to be of value it must be accompanied by a sincere repentance that purifies us and frees us from the emotional force of occult complexes. Many people have found in confession made in either way, a great relief, crowned then by good results in the events of life.
In order to eliminate the complexes formed in the subconscious mind and to favour the success of our affairs, it is good to trace the confession or retrospection back to previous years. This procedure is called delayed retrospection.
It is best done in writing. One makes a broad outline of the facts that have disturbed us: if it is not possible to do this at once, one divides the work into several stages, until the whole life is re-examined. The writing must be done secretly, with omission of names. After finishing it, destroy it. Afterwards, we will notice a gradual improvement in mental and emotional conditions, which will have a beneficial effect on material ones. […]”
